Employee Spotlight: Shelley Behrens

Meet Administrative Manager Shelley Behrens! She’s been with the Minburn Communications team for two years. Read more about who Shelley is below.

1. Where’d you grow up?

Bettendorf, Iowa (Quad Cities)

2. Tell us a little about your family.

I am the oldest of 3 children, 1 sister and 1 brother. I am a mother and a grandmother. I have one daughter, Lauren – 34, and three grandchildren, Ava – 7, Owen – 4, Collin – 2.

3. What’s something others might be surprised to learn about you?

My first “big girl” job was in the telecom industry with AT&T, where I worked for six years. I began as a toll-free directory assistance operator—a job that doesn’t even exist anymore! After three and a half years, I transferred into a service order administrator role for toll-free services, moving to two different AT&T offices: Worthington, Ohio, for two years and Chicago, Illinois, for one year. Before moving back home to Iowa with my then 10-year-old daughter to be closer to family and 22 years later I am back in the telecom industry to hopefully finish out my career.

4. What are a few things on your bucket list?

We want to start a yearly trip to see our favorite Dallas Cowboys
Travel more (besides visiting the QC), go on a cruise
Attend the taping of a live show

4. What hobbies or activities do you enjoy in your spare time?

When I’m not at work, I’m usually spending time with my daughter and grandkids—

whether we’re relaxing at home, going on little adventures, or making memories together. When I have some downtime, you’ll find me catching up on my favorite guilty pleasure TV shows. I love reality series like 90 Day Fiancé and Love After Lockup, along with cooking competitions and crime shows. But once football season starts, you’ll find me cheering on the Dallas Cowboys every game!

5. What do you enjoy most about working at Minburn Communications?

I’ve always enjoyed working for a small company because you get to know your coworkers as people, not just names on payroll. The relationships I’ve built with my team are my favorite part of working here.

The best part of my job is helping people grow. I love seeing employees build confidence, recognize their strengths, and achieve their goals. To me, that’s what HR is all about—supporting people and giving them the tools they need to succeed.
